Artist Presentation
Laura Murphy has created a series of multimedia portraits of women in dance in Ireland. The work encourages a rethinking of the traditional structure and hierarchies of dance. It offers a meditation on dance and on a life lived in dance and the intertwining of the two.
The portraits have been in development since 2019. With a team of multi-disciplinary artists, Laura developed a process that allows each portrait to manifest in a particular format, from animation to film to audio works. The development of a clear and time-rich process was integral in creating this work. In this presentation, Laura and one of her collaborators, filmmaker Pato Cassinoini, and a portrait artist will speak about their process and share sample portraits.
The previous title of the work Never Done (working title) features in the printed Light Moves Festival brochure.
Portraits is supported by the Arts Council.
