Opening Event: Moments of Movement by Eva Stotz and Marije Nie at Dance Limerick. Moments of Movement combines the visually stunning and global film archive of Eva Stotz, with the virtuosic and evocative rhythms of Marije Nie and is supported by musicians including saxophonist Cathal Roche, percussionist Erik Kooger and live sound designer Benjamin Jefferys.
Installations: Light Moves Festival of Screendance once again collaborated with Limerick City Gallery of Art to exhibit exciting, thoughtprovoking and cutting-edge work for the 2017 programme. Highlights of the gallery series include video pieces by Aernout Mik (Netherlands), Harun Farocki (Czech Republic) and Cindy Sherman (USA) along with the final instalment of works shown by Light Moves over the last number of years from the ground-breaking project 24 Frames Per Second commissioned by Carriageworks art centre in Sydney.
Feature Films: Screenings included Hukkle directed by György Pálfi (Hungary, 2007), In Memory of the Day Passed by directed by Šarūnas Bartas (Lithuania, 1990) and Decasia directed by Bill Morrison (USA, 2002).
Open Call Film Screenings: 8 programmes of short screendance works selected from the Light Moves 2017 Open Call.
Light Moves Screendacen Symposium – Screendance Through the Senses: The 2017 symposium theme invited screendance makers, spectators, advocates, and academics to examine the forms and approaches that enable this field’s diversity and vibrancy. Featuring Erika Balsom, Fearghus Ó Conchúir, Aine Stapleton, David Bolger, Chu-Li Shewring and more.
Light Moves Screendance LAB: An immersive two-day workshop and is an opportunity to discover new approaches, explore ideas and create work in the field of screendance. The workshop leaders are Berlin-based documentary maker Eva Stotz and Jürgen Simpson and Dr. Nicholas Ward of the University of Limerick. Katrina McPherson also led a BA lab for dance students at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.
