Les Robes Papillons / Butterfly Dresses
Director / choreographer: Camille Auburtin
Running time: 52:22
While Camille Auburtin’s grandmother Micheline, a former ballerina and dance teacher, is at the end of her life due to Alzheimer’s, the director attempts to stimulate her memory through recollection of her rich past life in dance.
Butterfly Dresses cleverly brings together images and movements, making visible bodies from the art form that had previously faded into the shadows.
The film weaves the portrait of an intimate and deep relationship, of two generations of women, built from the very beginning through the prism of dance.
Winner of BEST DOCUMENTARY at R.E.D Film Festival, Norway, in 2021
Perspectives
Director: Xavier Curnillon
Choreographer: Danièle Desnoyers
Running time: 37:59
In the darkness of an editing room, choreographer Danièle Desnoyers discovers the raw, unaltered footage from rehearsals of her recent creation with seven dancers. Six months of images scroll across the screen, bodies discover each other, embrace each other, answer each other.
Today’s reality is quite different from the footage, what is projected seems unreal, coming from a time before health restrictions. In the studio, one of the performers observes the images of his past projected on a white bicycle. “It’s hard to see that…right now, I’m realizing maybe I’ll never do this job again.”
7 Perspectives lifts the veil on the mystery of artistic creation, a unique and fragile ecosystem.
