Stephanie Keane, who hails from Limerick, is an Irish traditional dance artist, performer, choreographer and filmmaker. Immersed in Irish dance for over 40 years, she continues to evolve as a dancer and creator of dance, through exploring and learning contemporary dance practises, music production techniques and sound design tools. Sound exploration and the musicality of Irish dance has been the at the root of her dance practise. In 2020 she received an Arts Council Project award, to direct, produce and choreograph a screendance called Eist (Listen), which won the Grand prize at Cannes dance film festival in November 2023.
In February 2024 she was invited to be a perform of Take Off festival in Firkin Crane dance theatre Cork and at What Next festival in Dance Limerick. Stephanie is currently researching and developing a body of work, funded by the Art Council Bursary award in 2023, to create a new dance film and a theatre play, connecting her love of Irish traditional and electronic music with Irish traditional and contemporary dance.
