Sorcha Hassett is a Limerick, Ireland based multimedia artist, technologist and performer with almost a decade of cecchetti ballet and contemporary dance training experience. Since 2018, Hassett has focused her artistic and research practice toward the question of technologies role in live performance. Her research investigates the integration of evolving technologies and computational devices in dance and other physical theatre to augment live performance and choreographic practices.
Hassett’s work has looked at ways of capturing gestural and movement interactions of performers, as well as the kinaesthetic experience of the dancer, as they inhabit and move through a space. For the last number of years Hassett has developed her knowledge and skills in a number of creative media sectors and has pursued work in audio/ video engineering, video editing and live streaming. As a recent graduate of BA Music, Media and Performance Technology in the University of Limerick, Hassett couples her academic and occupational knowledge to create works which utilise computational devices and developing technologies for artistic investigation.
