Born in France, Lionel Kasparian has been living in Brussels since 2013. He is a graduate from the Nadia & Gilles Touché Drum School and the National Music Conservatory of Marseilles (electroacoustic music composition). He began his career in instrumental improvisation in connection with new technologies, before developing his work in sound design and sound creation with multichannel loudspeaker systems. In his work, he questions the collective aspect of human existence from the prominent place of the personality of the individual and he is particularly interested in so-called “marginal” people. His creations are often surrounding themes of introspection and intimacy. Since 2022, he is the associated composer of Magdalena Hylak’s choreographic project.
Magdalena Hylak is a dance artist based in the West of Ireland. She is currently touring nationally and internationally with John Scott-IMDT (IE) and Nacera Belaza (FR), with over 150 performances in 50 venues across 12 countries up to date. Since 2021, she is developing her own body of work, where she questions the notion of performance. At the core of her research is the movement and sound outside of the question of style/genre or technique. Magdalena is the Galway Dance Artist in Residence for 2023-2024. She is the recipient of funding from the Arts Council of Ireland (Agility Award 2021, Commission Award-GDP 2021, Dance Bursary Award 2022), the Galway County Council (Artist Support Scheme 2022) and the National Dance Residency Partnership (Award 2023).
