Haughton

Kate Haughton Kate is a dance artist from Dublin who makes work which emphasises unknown outcomes, to highlight the liveness of performance and it’s mirror to daily life. Her most recent work, Meeting Another, is a one-on-one adaptable performance score, and was created with collaborator Vera Stierli, and performed at BETA Dance Festival, ‘trial and error’ at Dampfzentrale, TanzFest Bern, and DLR Choice Live Performance in Dublin. In 2018 she created her minutes, a duet which looking at how time is perceived, and was performed as part of the Emerge Fest 2018 and Dublin Culture Night 2019. She produced an interactive video dissemination of the work in June 2020 with collaborator Rebecca Lee, which was the beginning of her interest in the use of screen dance and technology as a method to give audiences autonomy. She will be exploring this connection between interactive technology and live performance in the Studio Light Moves Residency with video artist Eoin Robinson.

Kate has worked as a contemporary performer for a variety of choreographers and companies, and her physical interest lies in somatic practices. She has a BA in Modern Ballet from RCS, an MA in Dance Performance from Trinity Laban, a BSc in Mathematics from the Open University, and an MSc in Theoretical Physics from Edinburgh University. Her work has been funded by DLR Coco and Arts Council Ireland.
