Ed Devane is a sound artist, instrument designer and educator whose practice sits at the intersection of music,
interaction design and participatory media. His work focuses on the creation of responsive sound and light systems, often through the design and fabrication of custom instruments and sensor-based interfaces. He is particularly interested in how technology can be activated through physical movement, allowing performers and participants to generate sound through embodied interaction rather than fixed control structures.
Ed has created interactive installations and performances for festivals, galleries and public spaces across Ireland, with commissions from organisations including Science Gallery Dublin, The Ark, Music Network, Galway International Arts Festival and Creative Ireland. He holds an MA in Creative Musicianship and has worked as a technician and teaching assistant in digital media and interaction design contexts at NCAD and the University of Limerick. His current practice explores wearable and portable systems that blur the boundaries between performer, instrument and environment.
