Doris Vahtra is a dance artist and movement researcher working across dance, theatre and electronic music (DJ
RÄNI), developing her artistic authorship through interdisciplinary practice. Originally from Estonia and now based
in Sligo, Doris is interested in how movement generates meaning beyond conventional representation, exploring
sensory awareness by positioning the body as an active sensing system.
She is a co-founder of Know Promises Theatre Collective, where her work is consistently collaborative, co-devised and majorly process-led. Her recent projects include Line Society (Agility Award, 2025), The Rambler (Arts Council Project Award, 2024) and the ongoing research project Project 8X (Live Work Play Award, 2025). Doris’s
interdisciplinary approach engages deeply with sound, rhythm and spatial dynamics, making her practice particularly suited to collaborations that sit between dance and technology. Through residencies and laboratories, she seeks contexts that allow deep physical inquiry, experimentation and the development of new choreographic
methodologies.
