Jürgen Simpson is a composer and performer exploring the intersection of sound, technology, and movement. Spanning fixed media, installation, theatre, and live performance, his work is rooted in the vocabulary and potential of electronic sound and process. His compositions for film have been presented at MoMA (New York), Tate Liverpool, and Galerie Nichido (Tokyo), and his work has been commissioned by Almeida Ensemble, National Chamber Choir Ireland, Crash Ensemble, RTÉ and Turning Point Ensemble. He has composed three operas, including the Genesis Opera Prize-winning Thwaite (2004) and Air India [redacted] (Vancouver, 2015).

An emphasis on the live performance using electronic systems and live coding has resulted in performances at Beta Festival, New Music Dublin, Signal Flow, ICLC Barcelona, and Body and Soul. His work in the field of dance includes collaborations with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Angie Smalis, Irish Modern Dance Company, Áine Stapleton and Mary Wycherley. He co-founded Light Moves Festival and is co-curator of Open Futures residency programme.
